Setting Up RingByName SSO with Microsoft SSO Single Sign On With Microsoft Entra ID

Setting Up RingByName SSO With Microsoft Entra ID

Want your users to sign in to RingByName with an SSO, Single Sign-in? Using Microsoft Entra ID this article walks an administrator through creating a non-gallery Enterprise Application in Microsoft Entra ID, configuring SAML single sign-on, and connecting the SSO details back to RingByName.

Before you start:
RingByName is not currently listed in the Microsoft Entra App Gallery, so this setup uses a custom non-gallery application. You'll need to contact your IT administrator to confirm your Microsoft Entra role. Your account may need Global Administrator, Cloud Application Administrator, or Application Administrator permissions before you can proceed.

Login on your RingByName account and go to System Administration. In RingByName Setup, click on the SSO menu, on the left column.

Here you can access all the SSO settings as well as enable and disable SSO.

Now, on your browser, navigate to https://entra.microsoft.com and login as your account’s administrator. Then, click Enterprise Apps.

Next, click “New application.”

Since RingByName is not listed in the gallery at this moment, you need to click “Create your own application.” If this option is grayed out, reach out to your office’s IT department to be sure you have one of the following roles: Global Administrator, Cloud Application Administrator, or Application Administrator.

Give it the name you prefer, we'll use "Ringbyname SSO", and make sure that “Integrate any other application you don’t find in the gallery (non-gallery)” is selected. Click “Create.”

On the next screen, click on “Single sign-on.”

Then, choose the “SAML” method.

Now, click on “Edit” inside the “Basic SAML Configuration” section.

You are going to copy the Entity ID and Reply URL from your RingByName’s SSO section.

Add it to the respective fields in Entra Id. Then click “Save.”

You should see the information added to the “Basic SAML Configuration.”

The second section, “Attributes & Claims” now has an “Edit” button. Click on it.

You need to modify the value of the first item “Unique User Identifier (Name ID).” Click on the name.

Change the value to “user.mail” and click “Save.”

Now you need to add a new claim. Click on “Add new claim.”

Give the new claim the “objectidentifier” name, and select “user.objectid” as the “Source attribute.” Click “Save” when done.

You should see the changes on the “Attributes & Claims” section.

Now you need to configure RingByName’s side with the information from your Entra Id.
In the section “Set up Ringbyname SSO (or the name you gave to this application)" copy the “Login URL” and “Microsoft Entra Identifier.”

And paste them into their respective fields on RingByName’s SSO configuration page. Please note that the “Entra Tenant Id” can be extracted from the URL. Please make sure you add that value.

Now, you need to download the Certificate from Entra Id. Select the base64 certificate.

Open the file in your preferred text editor, copy all its contents, and paste into the “New Certificate” area on RingByName’s SSO configuration page, then click “Add Certificate.” You should see a new line “Certificate 1” with the certificate.

Next, check the box “Enable SSO for this account” and hit “Save.”

Please make sure to add your company’s domain name at the bottom section. This domain must match the email addresses of the users configured in RingByName. After that you're good to go!
