R! Desktop Softphone Quick Start Guide

How to Use Your Desktop Softphone

The desktop softphone is as simple to use as your mobile or physical desk phone.

-You can use the dial pad or the 'phone number' text box at the top to quickly dial or paste any numbers you want to call out to.
-The cassette tape icon below the dial pad can be selected for quick access to your voicemail box. Remember to dial your extension and voicemail pin when prompted.

During a Call

When a number is first dialed you'll hear fast beeping indicating that the phone is starting the connection. You'll hear ringing soon if the destination is valid/accepting calls. Once connected there are a variety of icons you can select.

-The Speaker and Microphone icons when clicked either mute the other party on the phone (speaker) or you (microphone).
-The Pause button puts the other party on hold. If you press the play button it will unhold the other party.
-The red phone button will hang up the current call.
-The 1st mini icon, the dial pad icon on the bottom left will bring up a dial pad for any menu prompts or extensions you'd want to dial during the call.
-The 2nd mini icon, the person plus icon can be selected to add someone into the call for conferencing. It will bring you to a dial pad. Enter the destination or extension and tap the dial button to call them, then tap the two arrow-square icons to merge them into the conference.
-The 3rd mini icon, the two-arrows crossing icon can be selected to start an attended transfer. It will bring you to a dial pad. Enter the destination or extension and tap the dial button to call them. You can tap the 'x' icon to cancel the attempted transfer, tap the 2 arrow icon again to complete the transfer, or tap the two arrow-squares icon to conference the two parties into a conference call with you.

DND, Stop Inbound Calls

-If you need to stop receiving inbound calls there are a few ways to do so. We recommend using your Dashboard's Do-Not-Disturb (DND) feature to alert your team members that your not at your desk and can select a particular status so they know if/when to expect you back online. It can be accessed online from desktop or mobile at http://login.ringbyname.com
Also simply closing the app from your taskbar will prevent calls from reaching your desktop softphone. For more information about status updates visit our guide on Call Presence

Other Features

-On the left hand side of the app you can also see Recents. Any caller you select in 'Recents' is a recent caller you can call back, view call history of, or delete history of.

-On the left hand side of the app you can also see Contacts. Here you can create quick dial contacts for speedy callbacks to frequent destinations. Simply tap the '+' icon in Contacts, then add a name and number for the destination. You can right-click any entries in the list to edit or delete them.
